Real Madrid have reportedly slapped a €150 million price tag on Cristiano Ronaldo who looks set to leave the club in the summer.
Spanish publication Don Balon have reported that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo over his price tag. The Portuguese veteran’s release clause stands at a staggering €1 billion, but Los Blancos will instead hold out for a transfer fee of €150 million.
Ronaldo is rightly considered as one of the greatest players of all time, having enjoyed a storied, trophy laden career with Manchester United and Real Madrid in which he has laid his hands on every trophy there is to win in club competitions.
It is in Real Madrid, in particular, where Ronaldo’s true potential has been unleashed as he has been one of the most prolific players in the world over the last eight seasons. In fact, his record for Los Blancos is quite incredible as he has bagged a staggering return of 406 goals and 125 assists in 394 games for the Spanish heavyweights.
That makes it a direct contribution to a goal every 64 minutes, which makes it unsurprising that Ronaldo has also managed to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or four times. However, after eight fruitful seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu, his time with Real Madrid seems to be coming to an abrupt end.
Reports have claimed that Ronaldo wants to leave Spain having been embroiled in a tax evasion controversy. The 32-year-old is believed to be angry with the way that he has been treated by the Spanish tax authorities who have alleged that he has avoided £14.7 million in tax.
Additionally, Ronaldo is also disappointed in the lack of support he has found from Real Madrid and is, thus, keen to bring an end to his time in the Spanish capital. This is in contrast to his previous statements when the player had insisted that he’d like to retire at the Bernabeu.
Nevertheless, Ronaldo seems set to leave Real Madrid this summer. However, the price tag was believed to be stumbling block for potential suitors, as his release clause was set at an eye watering €1 billion when he put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with Los Blancos.
Ronaldo, though, has acknowledged the fact that no club will be able to pay the aforementioned sum and he has, thus, reached an agreement over his transfer fee with Real Madrid. The Spanish champions are, therefore, set to hold out for €150 million for their star forward, which would be the world record transfer fee.
What remains to be seen now is which club makes the attempt to land Ronaldo in the summer transfer window. The player is reported to have attracted interest from China, while he is also being linked with a dream return to Manchester United, and it will be interesting to see if he makes his way back to Old Trafford.
