Tottenham are reportedly set to battle Liverpool in pursuit of Lazio superstar Keita Balde, who is valued at around £30 million by the Serie A outfit.

Daily Mirror are claiming that Tottenham have joined the race for Lazio superstar Keita Balde. Everton and Liverpool are also linked heavily with the player. However, Tottenham’s entry into the picture might complicate things for other suitors – a positive news for Lazio, though, with a potential bidding war on their hands.

Keita Balde is a product of the famed La Masia academy setup of Barcelona, before moving to Italy to further his development at Lazio. The attacker has since become a phenomenon in Serie A with staggering numbers to show for his efforts, especially this season.

The predominantly left winger, who can also put in a shift as a right winger and even a striker, had 16 goals and 5 assists in 31 Serie A appearances for Lazio, aiding his side’s push to finish fifth on the table.

The display has seen interest arrive from the best of clubs, with Juventus, AC Milan and Manchester United all named as potential suitors for the 22-year-old. There are fresh suitors for the player now, with Tottenham and Liverpool both looking to beef up their attack before the 2017-18 campaign.

Liverpool have been linked with Mohamed Salah. Although there are reports of the club agreeing personal terms with the player, their negotiations with AS Roma with regards to the transfer fee seems to have reached an impasse, which may force Klopp to look at other targets.

Keita Balde is of a similar mould, and while the Senegalese doesn’t have prior experience of playing in the Premier League, the 22-year-old will surely serve as a better prospect in the long run. Tottenham, though, are ready to rival Liverpool, with Pochettino looking for an able winger to replace the disappointing Moussa Sissoko.

Son Heung-Min’s injury has made the addition of a winger even more imperative and the 22-year-old could be a potent long-term addition, who can also be deployed as a cover for Harry Kane, in case the newly appointed England captain is rested or unavailable.

Keita is reportedly valued at around £30 million by Lazio – an amount that Liverpool are already ready to pay for Mohamed Salah and would have no problem in doling out to land the Senegalese international. Tottenham, too, are unlikely to be fazed by the asking price.

Both the clubs are in the Champions League but it is Tottenham who seem closer to the top of the Premier League, with 3rd and 2nd placed finishes in the last two seasons respectively. It will be interesting to see whether the clubs meet Lazio’s valuation, with just a year left on his current deal and where Keita Balde ends up in the summer.
