Alexis Sanchez is reportedly set to depart from Arsenal, with Manchester City on the verge of sealing his summer switch to the Etihad Stadium

According to a report in The Sun, Arsenal forward, Alexis Sanchez and Manchester City have reached an agreement over completing the Chilean’s move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer transfer window.

Sanchez has been an instrumental figure for Arsenal fortunes ever since he made the switch from Barcelona in the summer of 2014. In the last three seasons, the Chilean has gone from strength to strength at the Emirates to establish himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

And 2016/17 turned out to be the most productive campaign of his senior career, as Sanchez notched up 30 goals and 19 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal.

However, the season was truly disastrous for the Gunners, who finished out of the Top 4 in the Premier League while also crashing out of the Champions League in the Round of 16.

Arsenal did triumph in the FA Cup final last month, but it may not be enough for them to keep Sanchez at the Emirates. The player’s contract with the club runs out in little over 12 months, and despite tabling consistently improved contract offers to him, the North Londoners have made little progress over reaching an agreement over a renewal.

Hence, Sanchez is set to call time on his spell at Arsenal to seek pastures anew in the summer. And, in all likelihood, his next destination seems to be the Etihad Stadium, with the report quoting reliable Chilean journalist Fernando Solabarrieta, who has claimed that the player is on his way to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola currently has a wealth of options in attack, swelled further by the recruitment of Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese’s arrival leaves the City boss with the likes of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero and Nolito at his disposal.

Despite having a plethora of options though, Guardiola has identified Sanchez as one of his top targets, who can undoubtedly add further quality to his squad at the Etihad. The player, too, is enticed by the prospect of working alongside his former Barcelona manager.

And as per the latest report, the player is set to get his wish, having finalised the last details of his move to City in the summer. Arsenal, though, favour a move abroad for Sanchez and it remains to be seen if the reported switch to City sees the light of the day.
