Wojciech Szczesny is reportedly set to join Serie A champions Juventus in a move to replace Gianluigi Buffon in the long scheme of things.

According to a report by The Sun, the Arsenal goalkeeper impressed while on loan at AS Roma last season and will ink a pre-contract with Juventus in a permanent move to replace the legendary Gianluigi Buffon when the veteran hangs up his gloves.

However, the Poland international will finish the final year of his Gunners contract before heading to Turin next summer since Buffon is likely to retire after the 2018 World Cup in Russia next year.

Szczesny has truly impressed on loan at Roma this season. He was ever-present in goal for his side and maintained 14 clean sheets in 38 top flight appearances as the Italian club finished four points behind Juventus.

The Polish stopper was fantastic this year and he also seemed to erase some of the biggest problems he faced earlier as far as his performances are concerned. He used to be inconsistent and rather indecisive despite being in a position where one can’t afford any confusion.

He has managed to transform himself into one of Serie A’s best keepers and it is no surprise Juventus have him on their radar. Szczesny was solid in the air, on the ground and during set pieces, and moreover his distribution from the back was never lacking.

He was as solid as a rock when Roma needed him the most and established himself as a key man in the club’s successes. Roma were also keen to sign him on a permanent basis while other clubs Serie-A like Napoli, Inter Milan and AC Milan also keeping an eye on the keeper.

Despite enjoying such a remarkable improvement, it might still be tough for him to get any playing time with the Gunners. Veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech has firmly established his dominion over the Arsenal goal while David Ospina has occupied the number two spot.

In such a situation, Szczesny will have to forego precious first-team action as well as risk losing the brilliant form he’s been in and that won’t be an advantageous gamble to take. Hence, joining Juventus seems like the best option for him right now, especially once Gigi Buffon bids adieu to the club.
