Manchester United are reportedly among a number of high-profile clubs interested in and tracking Sarpsborg starlet Krepin Diatta.

The Sun are claiming that Manchester United are keeping tabs on Sarpsborg starlet Krepin Diatta. The report claims that according to the player’s agent, Moustapha Fall, the player is being tailed by the likes of PSG, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille.

Krepin Diatta is a Senegalese youngster who joined Sarpsborg 08 in February, 2017 after coming through the Oslo Football Academy. The 18-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade and came on the radar of clubs after a stellar U-20 African Cup of Nations campaign, where he helped Senegal reach the final.

And while his side ended up on the losing side, the midfielder’s displays catapulted him into the eyes of the aforementioned clubs, who have their scouts in attendance to monitor the player’s performances at the Under-20 World Cup.

Senegal have already qualified for the knockout stages with 3 wins from 3 group stage fixtures and the scouts would have been impressed by the player.

Manchester United’s interest in the 18-year-old does not come as a surprise, given the overhaul that is under place at the club at the youth levels. However, Diatta is reportedly being eyed as a potential part of the first-team setup, a prospect that is sure to tempt the 18-year-old to switch loyalties.

The attacking midfield has been a problem area for Manchester United this season. Wayne Rooney has failed to shine in the role while Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata have both performed well when deployed out wide rather than through the middle.

Paul Pogba is better suited to the central midfield, which has left Jose Mourinho seeking additions to the attacking midfield in an attempt to replace Wayne Rooney, who is resigned to play a squad rotation role at best, if he does end up staying at the club beyond the summer.

Atletico Madrid have been mentioned as a potential destination. However, Los Rojiblancos have just had their transfer ban upheld and are unlikely to battle for the player in the summer. Manchester United, though, will still need to upstage PSG, Dortmund and Marseille.

While PSG and Dortmund may not provide Diatta as a quick route to the first-team setup – same as Manchester United – Marseille could be an interesting choice, with the club coming close to securing a top-four finish and have already begun recruitment for the next season.

It will be interesting to see how the player performs and whether any of the aforementioned clubs make a move to sign the player in the summer. The 18-year-old is likely to come cheap as well – another incentive to convert their interest into a real offer.
