Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly joined Barcelona in the race to sign Jean Michael Seri from Nice in the summer.

French outlet L’Equipe have reported that Jean Michael Seri is the subject of interest of PSG. The French heavyweights are all set to go head-to-head with Barcelona to land the OGC Nice midfielder in the summer transfer window.

OGC Nice were one of the surprise packages in French football this season, as a campaign of highly consistent football resulted in a third-placed finish in Ligue 1. One of their standout performers, Jean Michael Seri, was a revelation at the heart of midfield and he was the bedrock of his side’s unprecendented success this season.

In fact, the Ivory Coast international established himself as one of the best players in the French top flight, as he bagged seven goals and nine assists in 34 league games. Surely enough, some of the biggest clubs in Europe have now turned their attention towards Seri, and he could be on the move this summer.

Barcelona have been the most heavily linked club with the player, with the club eyeing reinforcements in midfield following an underwhelming campaign in which they relinquished their La Liga title while also failing to mount a challenge for the UEFA Champions League.

The likes of Ivan Rakitic, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes failed to provide consistent support to Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta at the centre of the park. The Catalans are also eager to find a successor to Iniesta, who is fast approaching the end of his glittering career.

Hence, Seri has been identified as one of the top targets for Barcelona, who are set to make a move for the player in the summer transfer window. However, the Blaugranas are set to face stiff competition for his signature in the form of PSG.

Les Parisiens, too, endured a disappointing campaign as they relinquished their Ligue 1 title to AS Monaco while bowing out of the Champions League at the Last 16 stage. With a summer of rebuilding being mooted at the Parc des Princes, midfield reinforcement has been identified as one of the top priorities.

The aforementioned is a result of Blaise Matuidi and Marco Verratti being linked with summer exits from the French capital. Should that happen Unai Emery will have a serious shortage of options in midfield, which is why, he has now turned his attention towards Seri over a move in the summer.

The report suggests that PSG will meet with Seri’s representatives later this week to come to an agreement over the terms of the deal. There’s another factor playing in the hands of the French club, as any club in France will only need to shell out €25 million as compared €40 million termination clause for foreign clubs.

It now remains to be seen if PSG can manage to beat Barcelona and secure the services of Seri, as a busy summer beckons them.
