Barcelona are reportedly set to make a move to sign Jean Michael Seri from OGC Nice in the summer.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo have reported that Jean Michael Seri is the subject of interest of Barcelona. The recently dethroned La Liga champions are set to launch the offensive for the Nice midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Seri has been a key figure for Nice ever since he switched allegiances from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015. His second campaign at the Allianz Riviera saw him become the cornerstone of his side’s unprecedented success as the club clinched Champions League qualification by finishing a claiming a shock 3rd place finish in Ligue 1.

Seri was one of the best performers in the French top flight in 2016/17, notching up seven goals and nine assists in 34 league games. His stellar performances this season have earned him a lot of plaudits and one of the biggest clubs in Europe have set their sights on the player.

Barcelona relinquished their La Liga title to Real Madrid this season and also saw their challenge for the Champions League peter out horribly. Inconsistencies in midfield has been underpinned as one of the primary reasons for the club’s failure, with the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes blowing hot and cold all through the campaign.

On top of that, club captain Andres Iniesta is on the wrong side of 30 and is slowly approaching the end of his glittering career. As a result, Barcelona are eager to make reinforcements in midfield this summer.

The Catalans have registered their interest in Seri, having had him monitored on several occasions over the course of the campaign. The Ivory Coast international is comfortable on the ball, and his ability to pick a pass – both short and long – make him the ideal player to give company to Iniesta and Sergio Busquets at the heart of the Barcelona midfield.

What’s more promising for the Blaugranas is that the player is admittedly a fan of the club, which is set to hand them the advantage during negotiations. Seri has even followed Barcelona’s Instagram account, which is often seen as a habitual gesture before the completion of a deal. It now remains to be seen if Seri can fulfill his dream this summer.
