Manchester United are reportedly set to rebuff Real Madrid’s approach for goalkeeper David De Gea in the summer

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are determined to keep David De Gea away from the clutches of Real Madrid as Los Blancos look set to make a move for the Spanish goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

De Gea is widely considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, having been one of the most influential players for Manchester United during his six-year spell with the club.

This season, De Gea produced impressive figures yet again as he conceded just 29 goals in 35 Premier League appearances, keeping 14 clean sheets in the process – only Thibaut Courtois (16) and Hugo Lloris (15) kept more shut outs.

His stupendous performances have also made De Gea quite the coveted property, with Real Madrid reportedly set to go all out in his pursuit in the summer, in what will be their second attempt to secure his services.

Los Blancos had looked all set to land the Spain number one in 2015 as a £29 million deal had reportedly been agreed between them and Manchester United. However, a failed paperwork submission ultimately provided the Red Devils a lifeline as the move was scuppered.

However, with both Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla blowing hot and cold this season, the newly-crowned La Liga champions are determined to sign De Gea this time around, and are expected to launch the offensive for him when in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United, though, are understandably unwilling to let go of their prized asset even as certain murmurings suggested that De Gea was likely to be sold after he was overlooked for the side’s last two games of the campaign, thereby possibly strengthening Real Madrid’s position during negotiations.

However, the Premier League club are intent on keeping the 26-year-old as Jose Mourinho still considers him as the first-choice goalkeeper in his squad. Manchester United are, thus, set to fight off Real Madrid in the summer.

As compared to two summers ago, the Red Devils are also in a better position to rebuff Real Madrid as De Gea still has more than two years left on his current deal with the club. Additionally, the Spaniard is seemingly settled at Old Trafford as well, and has not sought a move back to the Spanish capital.

So, Manchester United have issued a firm hands-off warning to Real Madrid in their pursuit of De Gea, and it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants are able to find a way to prise the shot stopper to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
