Bayern Munich are reportedly considering a move to sign Willian from Chelsea in the summer.

According to a report in German publication Abendzeitung, Willian is the subject of interest of Bayern Munich. The Bavarian giants are considering a deal to sign the Brazilian winger from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Willian has been an integral figure at Stamford Bridge ever since he made the move to Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013. In fact, the Brazilian international has been one of the most consistent performers for the Blues in the last four seasons.

The testament to the aforementioned consistency is that Willian was one of the few positives for Chelsea in a season that was nothing short of a disaster and was rightly recognised as Chelsea’s Player of the Season.

However, 2016/17 turned out to be a disappointing campaign for Willian, as Pedro enjoyed a season of resurgence consequently forcing the player to play second fiddle on the right of the Chelsea front three.

In fact, the player managed to start just 15 games in the recently concluded Premier League season, and there have been reports that Chelsea are ready to offload him this summer. Should Willian be put on sale, there is unlikely to be a dearth of clubs vying for his signature.

The latest to emerge as suitors for the player are Bayern Munich, with the Bundesliga champions keen to recruit a winger in the summer, as per the report. Carlo Ancelotti currently has the likes of Douglas Costa, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Kinglsey Coman as his options for the two positions on either flank.

But, Costa is being heavily linked with a summer exit from the Allianz Arena, while the duo of Robben and Ribery are arguably in the twilight years of their glittering careers. Therefore, the Bayern boss seems to have a serious need to sign a winger at the peak of his powers.

Ancelotti has, thus, set his sights at Willian who, at 28, can offer at least 4-5 years of top level football. There are several reports suggesting that Antonio Conte is set to make reinforcements in attack – a risk that he could fall further down the pecking order.

A summer exit from Chelsea, therefore, could be in his best interests, and with regular game time potentially on offer at Bayern, a summer switch to the Allianz Arena may be in the offing.

The player, though, still has more than 3 years left to run on his deal with the Blues, meaning he could command a sizable transfer fee and it remains to be seen if a move sees the light of day.
