Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes has reportedly been offered to arch rivals Real Madrid for a possible move in the summer

Spanish publication Don Balon have reported that Andre Gomes could be set for a summer exit from Camp Nou, with the Portuguese midfielder’s agent, Jorge Mendes offering him to several clubs in Europe, including bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona signed Gomes last summer from Valencia in a €35 million deal. The 23-year-old arrived at Camp Nou to much excitement, having enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Valencia last season before playing an instrumental role for Portugal in their European Championship triumph.

However, in the 10 months that have followed his acquisition by Barcelona, Gomes has failed to live up to the hype surrounding him as he has struggled to become a regular fixture in Luis Enrique’s first-team picture.

Gomes has often had to compete with the likes of Denis Suarez, Rafinha and Ivan Rakitic for one spot at the heart of the Barcelona midfield, as a result of which, he has managed to start just 17 games for the Blaugranas in La Liga this season.

And much to the frustrations of the Barcelona supporters, Gomes has failed to create much of an impact in the games that he has featured in, scoring just 3 goals in addition to providing 2 assists in all competitions.

And while many at Barcelona would understandably like to see the back of the Portuguese midfielder soon, there are those within the club who believe in giving him one more season to prove himself. However, that is not stopping speculation surrounding his future at Camp Nou.

Recent reports have suggested that Juventus and two clubs from the Premier League are interested in signing Gomes in the summer. And the Don Balon report claims that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes has offered him to several clubs in Europe, including bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Mendes has already opened negotiations with these clubs, and a shock move to former suitors Real Madrid cannot be ruled out. Club president Florentino Perez isn’t keen on signing the Portuguese midfielder though, as he secretly admits that Barcelona did them a favour by signing him.

Indeed, it is hard to see how Gomes’ struggles would dissipate should he move to Real Madrid in the summer, as he could be in a similar quagmire that he finds himself in at Barcelona, with the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro firmly keeping their place as regulars in Zinedine Zidane’s side.

It now remains to be seen if a shock switch to the Santiago Bernabeu happens in the summer, or if some other club signs him instead. For now though, it is looking likely that Gomes could be on his way out of Barcelona in the summer transfer window, just a season after his arrival at Camp Nou.
