Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Danny Rose and are preparing a summer assault on the Tottenham defender.

According to a report from TransferMarketWeb, Manchester City have shortlisted Danny Rose as a priority summer target as Pep Guardiola looks to freshen up his wide defensive areas. The Tottenham defender has been linked regularly with a move to the Citizens and it looks like the club is ready to move for the Englishman.

Danny Rose has been one of the most improved stars in the last couple of seasons. After several loan spells, the 26-year-old has managed to carve out a place for himself in the first-team setup at White Hart Lane.

The player has forged a great partnership with Kyle Walker and the two are considered the best full-back duo in the Premier League. However, Tottenham, despite two strong seasons, have fallen short of the title due to their vulnerability to buckle under pressure.

This season, though, has been a much improved one. Still, Kyle Walker has already been rumoured to be thinking of an exit from the club in the summer, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City and many others interested in the player.

Manchester City, especially, are looking to freshen up their options for Guardiola. All the current options on either side of the defence for City are past the 30-age mark and the former Barcelona manager is seeking to add younger faces to his squad, especially in the aforementioned positions.

Danny Rose, at 26, would represent the best of both worlds. The Englishman has several years of Premier League experience under his belt while his age means he can still provide the club with at least 5 years of top-level football.

Rose would also add to the players who can fill up the Home-Grown slots for Manchester City, an area which could be depleted if Joe Hart ends up leaving along with a couple of other stars that qualify for the same.

It still remains to be seen whether Pochettino would allow Rose to leave, let alone to a fellow rival in Manchester City. The player is contracted to Tottenham till 2021 and is unlikely to be allowed to depart for anything other than a considerable fee.

However, Manchester City could interest Rose with an insight into Guardiola’s vision for the club and the player might just be tempted to take the plunge come summer. There could be competition, however, in the form of Manchester United, who have also been linked with the player recently.

The marauding left-back could soon be heading to Manchester; and by the looks of it, the blue half looks to have the upper hand in the pursuit of the 26-year-old.
