Liverpool have reportedly revived their interest in former Chelsea attacker Mohamed Salah, who currently plies his trade for AS Roma.

The Daily Mail are claiming that Liverpool are back in contention to sign AS Roma attacker Mohamed Salah in the summer. The Egyptian had been linked previously to the Reds as well and it seems Jurgen Klopp is looking to bring the player over to Anfield to bolster the squad depth in their attack.

Mohamed Salah’s career has been a real roller-coaster. The Egyptian earned a move to Chelsea after scintillating displays at FC Basel. But the ‘Egyptian Messi’ – as the fans loved to call him – failed to capture the imagination at Stamford Bridge.

19 appearances, 2 goals and 4 assists later, the player was loaned out to Serie A and AS Roma ended up making his loan move permanent before the start of the 2016-17 season. And the 24-year-old has returned to his menacing best, with a mammoth 17 goals and 14 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions thus far.

Salah has always been lauded for his pace and directness. And, under Luciano Spalletti, the player has re-established himself as a top player in the footballing world. However, with the improvement in form, interest has also arrived in the form of Liverpool.

The Reds were linked with Salah at previous junctures as well. However, the need for a player of Salah’s skill-set has become even more imperative now. Coutinho has been linked to an exit in the summer, which would leave the Reds attack – one that already needs depth – further depleted.

The prospect of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah running down either flanks and terrorizing the opposition defence would definitely pique the interest of the Kop Army as well.

Salah too, could be interested in such a proposition. The Egyptian did not exactly get to grips with the rigours of playing in a top league during his time at Chelsea. But, with quality time in Serie A under his belt, the player would be eager to show the Premier League just how good the 24-year-old can be.

At 24, the player would be a potent addition, bearing in mind the long-term status as well. Klopp likes attackers who can be versatile and can interchange among themselves. And the addition of Salah would further add to his philosophy.

It remains to be seen, though, if Liverpool can attract the player over to Anfield, especially with the player being so well-settled at AS Roma. The Reds, though, are unlikely to concede without an attempt and are likely to test the resolve of both the player and the club in the summer.
