According to German media outlet TZ Sport, Bayern Munich have emerged as shock suitors for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. The Croatian is considered to be one of the best playmakers in the world today, and could be a huge coup for the German side.

After bossing the Tottenham Hotspur midfield for four seasons, it was no surprise that Real Madrid came knocking at his door, and convinced the player to move away from White Hart Lane.

Los Blancos are believed to have beaten Manchester United in the race to sign the Croatian, but there was never a doubt in the player’s mind as to where he envisaged himself playing professional football.

While it was a struggle initially, Modric came to terms with life at one the world’s biggest clubs the hard way, but eventually managed to convince the club hierarchy that he had it in him to anchor the Real midfield.

Together with Toni Kroos, and Casemiro too, this season, Modric has been seamless in his ball distribution, and his overall impact of the game. Despite being 31-years-old, the midfielder appears to be at the prime of his career, looking like he’s in his early twenties.

There are only a select clubs that Modric will leave Real Madrid for, and Bayern Munich are arguably one of them. The Bavarian giants have dominated the Bundesliga for a number of seasons, and are only look stronger with every passing season.

Their holding midfielder Xabi Alonso announced that he is retiring at the end of the season, and captain and longest-serving German Philipp Lahm has also made a similar claim about his future.

Bayern will thus be bereft of the services of two quality players, who are immensely talented. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will want to ensure that his team remains the best in the country, and he could look to invest a significant amount to sign Modric.

Alonso, too, moved to the Allianz Arena being on the wrong side of thirty, and still managed to nail down a place in the Madrid first team. Modric, will undoubtedly strengthen the Bayern midfield and give them a massive boost in their quest for the Champions League.
