Real Madrid are reportedly reconsidering the immediate future of Zinedine Zidane after reports emerged of a rift between the two parties.

According to Sky Sports journalist Alessandro Alciato, all is not well between Zinedine Zidane and the Real Madrid hierarchy, and the Frenchman may be in very real danger of losing his job, come the end of the season, should he not win a trophy.

A report in Italian outlet Calciomercato, states that should Zidane fail to clinch the La Liga title or the UEFA Champions League, he may be replaced by the likes of Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino and Germany’s Joachim Low.

Alciato’s recent tweet implies that something has ‘broken’ in the relationship of the 2 parties. When translated literally it states “Something has broken between Zidane and Real. The Madrid bench could become warmer than expected.”

In January it was reported that talks were underway between Zidane and the club over a new contract. The French Legend was handed a two and a half year deal and appointed as manager after Rafa Benitez’s dismissal in January last year.

Since then, they have won the Champions League title, the Club World Cup title and the UEFA Super Cup and are well on their way to defending their Champions League crown and winning their first La Liga title since 2012.

In the 80 games he has managed since, he has won 59, drawn 15 and lost a mere 6 games. His win record stands at an astounding 73.75% and he shares a great relationship with the likes of Ronaldo, Bale & co. Needless to say, he has a been a huge success so far and could very well be Real Madrid’s answer to Pep Guardiola.

Perhaps the only area in which Zidane has failed to shine is keeping all of his players happy with adequate game time. However, in a dressing room that possesses the kind of quality that Real Madrid has, that was never going to be possible and yet, Zidane has done an admirable job.

However, that is unlikely to be the reason for this new rift between the manager and club and this breakdown in relations couldn’t have come at a worse time for either side, with the club in the semifinals of the Champions League and second in the La Liga table and it remains to be seen how this affects the performance for the side going forward.
