Liverpool are reportedly set to battle Chelsea to land Andrea Conti from Atalanta in the summer transfer window

According to a report in TransferMarketWeb, Atalanta right-back Andrea Conti is being tracked by Chelsea and Liverpool, who are set to make a move to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Conti progressed through the ranks at Atalanta before breaking into the senior setup in 2013. Two loan spells away from the club followed before he established himself as a key figure in the first-team setup last season.

He has only gone from strength to strength in the current campaign, having become a mainstay at right-back for his side. In a season when Atalanta have surprised many with their charge up to 5th in the Serie A table, Conti has been one of the standout performers, even chipping in with 7 goals and 4 assists.

In addition to that, his versatility to play on the right side of defence as easily as on either side of midfield makes his quite the asset for La Dea. And as he continues to come into his own, Conti is starting to attract the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Chelsea and Liverpool are the two most prominent sides who have been monitoring his progress for some time now, and are set to vie for his signature in the summer. Chelsea, in particular, having been tracking his development for a long time now, with Antonio Conte said to be a huge admirer of his talents.

Conti’s versatility to play across different positions on the right side also makes him a viable target, particularly for the right wing-back slot, where the Chelsea boss does not have anyone beyond Victor Moses to pick from.

With the West London club set to compete on four fronts next season, Conte has to bolster his options and Conti’s addition will definitely be a welcome one. But Chelsea are not the only side in pursuit of the 23-year-old, with Liverpool also keen to sign him in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp does have the consistent Nathaniel Clyne as a solid player at right-back, but there are no recognised options beyond him. With Liverpool set to play in four competitions as well next season, Klopp also has a similar need of adding reinforcements to his squad.

The likes of Napoli, Inter and AC Milan have also expressed an interest in signing him previously and it remains to be seen if they make a move for him in the summer. For now though, Chelsea and Liverpool are the front-runners to sign Conti, and a summer exit from Atalanta may be in the offing.
