Turkish club Trabzonspor are reportedly eyeing a move to sign Marouane Fellaini from Manchester United in the summer.

Turkish outlet Milliyet have reported that Marouane Fellaini is attracting the attention of Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, where club president Muharrem Usta is targeting the Manchester United midfielder for a move in the summer transfer window.

Fellaini has been a polarising figure at Old Trafford ever since the day he first stepped foot into the Theatre of Dreams as a Manchester United player. Signed in a £27.5 million deal from Everton, he was the only signing that David Moyes made in the summer of 2013.

A disastrous 2013/14 campaign followed and as Manchester United finished seventh in the league table, Fellaini was often made the scapegoat for the club’s failures that season. That has mirrored his entire career as a Manchester United career that has been full of ups and downs.

This season, he has been a regular part of the first-team setup under Jose Mourinho, who has put his faith in the Belgian international and even handed him the captain’s armband in a match against Sunderland earlier this month.

Fellaini has played 43 games across all competitions in the current campaign, scoring 3 goals while providing one assist. Certain reports have suggested that Manchester United have even taken the option to trigger the one-year extension option in Fellaini’s contract – an indication that he could be set to stay beyond this season.

But while Fellaini hasn’t been poor by any stretch of imagination this season and has in fact been quite consistent, there have been calls to sign midfielders with better calibre in order to challenge on all fronts on a consistent basis.

It now looks like that is exactly what could happen when the transfer window reopens in June, as Fellaini is a wanted man in Turkey. Super Lig giants Trabzonspor are interested in signing the 29-year-old in the summer.

The club will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in August and its president, Muharrem Usta has zeroed in on Fellaini as the player who he wants to make his marquee signing on the occasion.

Tranzonspor have fallen far behind the leaders in the race to win the Super Lig this season, as they lie 17 points adrift of leaders Besiktas in 5th place, and with ambitions to make their 51st year a truly memorable one, they intend to make some reinforcements.

Fellaini, clearly, is one of their priorities, but it remains to be seen if Mourinho will let go of a player who he has placed a lot of faith on this season.
