Jose Mourinho could be reunited with Willian as the Portuguese seeks a summer reunion with the Chelsea star at Manchester United.

According to ESPN‘s sources, Jose Mourinho is set to renew his interest in Chelsea superstar Willian. The Brazilian was linked to a shock move to Manchester United in January and it looks like Mourinho is set to test his former team’s resolve with a bid in the summer.

Jose Mourinho is set to resume his rebuilding process at Old Trafford when the summer window reopens. The Portuguese is likely to move several players – like Adnan Januzaj – off the Manchester United books and is reportedly targeting a move for the Brazilian winger.

Willian has taken to footballing under Antonio Conte after some initial troubles to match up to the rigours of a 3-4-3 formation. The player does have a decent return of 10 goals and 3 assists in all competitions this season and has featured 35 times for the club as of now.

However, there are still doubts as to the player’s place at Stamford Bridge. Pedro has been often favoured over the Brazilian and the right-wing back slot seems to have been owned by Victor Moses. Willian has played second fiddle for most of the campaign, especially since Chelsea adopted the 3-4-3 formation.

And with a plethora of potential summer arrivals named in the aforementioned two positions, Willian may find himself surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. Manchester United could prove to be an ideal destination for the Brazilian.

The player – having played under Mourinho previously – could fit in seamlessly at Old Trafford and could fill the much-highlighted void of an out-and-out winger in the squad, especially after the departure of Memphis Depay.

Jose Mourinho is known to like players with a high work-rate and Willian could be the answer to his wing problems as at the present moment. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic out and there being no certainty that he will be a Red Devil when he returns, Mourinho would want to play Marcus Rashford upfront – along with a potential summer signing.

This will free up even more space in the squad for a winger and Willian could get guaranteed playing time. Also, Manchester United would be able to get their hands on a player that has abundant Premier League experience and has often shown just how explosive he can be.

Add to that the feel-good factor of their previous deal with Chelsea that Juan Mata’s arrival at Old Trafford – a resounding success – has created and Manchester United are unlikely to think twice before pouncing at the opportunity to land Willian, should he be available in the summer.

It is likely to depend on Chelsea’s summer arrivals and Antonio Conte could well allow the player to leave if the Italian gets the players he wants to strengthen the Blues. The player arrived in a deal close to £30 million and with his deal set to run till 2020, Chelsea are likely to ask a fee in the same echelon as aforementioned.

At 28, Willian can still easily provide United with 3 years, at the very least, of top quality football and the uncertainty over his role at Stamford Bridge might just push him towards Old Trafford.
