Manchester United are plotting a €200 million offer for Barcelona superstar Neymar, according to reports

According to Sport, the Red Devils are “crazy” about signing Neymar and they have been in contact with the Brazilian superstar through their representatives. They state that United are willing to offer him a massive hike in his wages in order to prise him away from Barcelona.

They also claim that United are willing to pay Neymar’s €200 million release clause as there is no way that Barcelona will negotiate for anything less than that given Neymar’s talent and the fact that he is only 25 years old.

Sport state that Mourinho has been in regular contact with the Brazilian international and regularly calls the Barcelona superstar in an attempt to convince him that United will be a step forward for his career and that he will be able to step out of Lionel Messi’s shadow.

They will reportedly offer Neymar a contract worth €25 million a year which would not only make him the highest paid player at Manchester United ahead of the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, but also in the English Premier League.

There are a few things that will hinder the deal according to Sport. One is the fact that Neymar himself is very happy at Barcelona and despite the lucrative contract, he has doubts about moving to Old Trafford.

Another factor is the fact that United may yet fail to qualify for the Champions League. The Red Devils currently sit in 5th place, 4 points behind fourth-placed Liverpool who have played two more games than Jose Mourinho’s side.

United could still finish inside the top 4 and should they win the Europa League they will be guaranteed a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season. However, should they fail to qualify, Neymar may well decide against a move to England.

United are in need of a talisman as Zlatan Ibrahimovic will likely leave at the end of next season and Wayne Rooney will almost certainly leave at the end of this one, and Neymar fits the profile perfectly.

Not only is the Brazilian superstar a player who can change games single-handedly, but at 25 he would also form the core part of a group of players that could dominate English and European football for years to come.

Still, it is difficult to see why Barcelona would part with their star player and regardless of however much United offer, the Catalans will likely still try and find a way to keep a hold of the Brazilian international.
