Transfer News: Liverpool in advanced talks with Jordy Gaspar

Liverpool are reportedly in advanced talks with Olympique Lyonnais star Jordy Gaspar with Jurgen Klopp keen to add defensive options to the squad.

French publication TF1 have claimed that Liverpool and AC Milan are interested in Olympique Lyonnais starlet Jordy Gaspar. The two clubs are reportedly in advanced discussions with the star and his camp over a potential summer transfer with Liverpool holding a slight edge over AC Milan at the present moment.

Jordy Gaspar is another gem produced by the famed Olympique Lyonnais academy. The player became a regular for the Under-19 team at first and was later graduated to the B team last year. And this season, the 19-year-old has managed to break-through into the first-team setup at the Ligue 1 club.

Gaspar has now appeared twice for Lyon in Ligue 1 while also making his UEFA Champions League debut too, against Sevilla. The highly-rated defender, who can play both as a right-back and a left-back, though, is on a deal that is set to expire at the end of the season.

As per the report, Lyon have already tabled an extension offer at Gaspar’s doorstep. But, the fear is that the offer may have been a tad too late, with numerous clubs circling the player now. The likes of Liverpool, AC Milan, Fiorentina and Bayer Leverkusen are all showing interest in the player.

While the interest of the latter two is still in the preliminary stage, Liverpool and AC Milan have already established contact and are in discussions with the player and his representatives over a potential transfer. But, Liverpool, who were credited with interest in the player earlier as well, is thought to be one step ahead of AC Milan.

Liverpool are in need of defensive reinforcements in the wide defensive areas, with Nathaniel Clyne the only recognised wide defender that is in the good books of Jurgen Klopp.

The German is also looking for depth at right-back while also looking for a more natural defender in the left-back position, which has been donned by James Milner, who is predominantly a midfielder.

AC Milan are planning a summer overhaul of their squad and could see the player as the perfect addition in line with the long-term vision of the football club.

Now it is upto Jordy Gaspar to decide whether he will opt to continue his journey with Olympique Lyonnais or choose to move to a new club to advance his career.
