Liverpool have entered the race for Arsenal and Real Madrid target Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are interested in signing the Lyon forward but will face competition from Arsenal – who are eyeing up the Frenchman as a potential £60 million replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

Daniel Sturridge has once again had to endure an injury-riddled season and has also not been Klopp’s first choice at centre forward even when fit. Roberto Firmino and even Divock Origi have been preferred to the Englishman despite the fact that he has been fit, prompting rumours that Liverpool will look to sell him this summer.

Sturridge has only managed 5 starts and 9 substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and has picked up 2 goals and 1 assist. Despite his undoubted talent, it is understandable that Liverpool are beginning to look for a more reliable option given his injury history.

And, Lacazette could provide exactly that. The 25-year old Lyon forward has been in blistering form again this season, picking up 27 goals and 3 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.

The Frenchman’s form has quickly seen him pop back onto the radar of Europe’s elite clubs and it is no surprise Liverpool have also taken notice of his performances. Lacazette himself confirmed last month that he wanted to leave Lyon this summer and the speculation about his next destination has been growing ever since then.

Arsenal have been perennially linked with a move for the forward and the Mirror claim that they have identified him as Alexis Sanchez’s replacement already. The contract rebel looks set to leave the Emirates at the end of the season and Arsenal will definitely need someone to replace him upfront.

The Gunners put in bids for the striker last summer as well only to be repeatedly rebuffed by Lyon, who refused to sell their star striker at that point. Their stance has now changed, however, which means Arsenal could well renew their interest in Lacazette.

Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the Frenchman, who Zinedine Zidane will have been keeping a keen eye on. Karim Benzema’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu is growing uncertain by the day and Madrid have identified Lacazette as a potential target.

Benzema has been on the receiving end of constant hostility from the Madrid fans over the last couple of months prompting speculation that he will leave. With the Frenchman also turning 30 later this year, Lacazette would provide a more youthful option who already has bags of experience of playing at the top level.

One way or another, there is set to be a battle for Lacazette’s signature at the end of the season and it appears that two of the Premier League’s elite clubs will go head-to-head for the prolific forward.
