AC Milan have set their sights on Cesc Fabregas and are plotting a summer move for the Chelsea midfielder, as per reports.

Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that Cesc Fabregas features prominently in AC Milan’s summer wishlist and have made the Chelsea midfielder a top transfer priority for the summer. The Italian giants are now lining up a move for the Spain international.

Fabregas has endured a difficult campaign at Stamford Bridge this season. The 29-year-old has played a bit part role under new manager, Antonio Conte, with the Italian favouring the central midfield pairing of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic for much of the season.

The diminished role this term has meant that Fabregas has managed to start just 11 games all season, but still has impressive figures to show for his efforts in the limited opportunities that have come his way. He has bagged five goals and eight assists in all competitions.

More impressive is the fact that Fabregas has either scored or assisted a goal every 64 minutes in the Premier League, continuing to combine effortlessly with Diego Costa whenever he has taken to the field this term. His latest performance also saw him grab a goal and winner against Swansea City on the weekend to help Chelsea to a 3-1 win.

The lack of first team opportunities have seen Fabregas constantly being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent months. Real Madrid and Guangzhou Evergrande are the two most heavily linked clubs, while West Ham United also made a late deadline day bid to sign Fabregas before he rejected their overtures.

However, despite the lack of game time, both Fabregas and Conte have insisted that the Spaniard is not moving away from Stamford Bridge any time soon. But if minutes continue to remain hard to come by, the midfield maestro could be forced to reconsider his future with the Blues.

Should that happen, AC Milan are expected to be lying waiting in the wings in order to bring him to San Siro in the summer. The report states that two key men in Milan hierarchy, Massimo Mirabelli and Marco Fassone have made Fabregas a top transfer target and are keen to sign him.

The aim is to build their new team around Fabregas as they set about scaling the heights of Italian football once again. It now remains to be seen if the Rossoneri can manage to lure the Spaniard to San Siro, should Fabregas decide to leave Chelsea for pastures anew.
