Sevilla are ready to offer Lucas Perez an escape route back to Spain and are reported to be lining up a summer move for the Arsenal misfit

The Sun have reported that Lucas Perez is set to be offered an escape route from Arsenal back to Spain. Sevilla are tracking Perez and are set to make a swoop for the forward by offering him more regular football back in La Liga next season.

Lucas Perez hasn’t quite managed to take his career to the next level ever since he made the move to North London from Deportivo La Coruna this past summer. Signed on a £17.1 million deal, Perez came to England after his most successful senior season, having scored 17 goals in the previous campaign.

However, in the six months that have followed the transfer, Perez has struggled to match the highs of 2015/16 having only started nine games so far. Injuries have played their part as well but Arsene Wenger has favoured other players ahead of Perez despite the 28-year-old proving to be versatile.

Alexis Sanchez is nailed on as Arsenal’s centre-forward with Olivier Giroud his deputy, while Perez is far behind in the pecking order on the wings, with the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck all ahead of him. This despite Perez scoring seven goals in his limited opportunities.

Reports last week claimed that Perez might be open to a move away from the Emirates Stadium in the summer in search of more first team opportunities, with AC Milan rumoured to be considering a transfer bid for the Spaniard.

However, Perez’s agent, Rodrigo Fernando Lovelle later quashed the rumours of the player being unsettled in North London by claiming that he was happy and content at the Emirates Stadium, and is willing to fight for his place in the Arsenal first team.

But despite Lovelle’s reaffirmations, it looks like Sevilla could soon enter the market for Perez in the summer, as per the report by the Sun. Should Arsenal allow Perez to move back to Spain at the end of the season, they would look to recoup the entire amount they shelled out to secure his services this past summer.

However, with Perez currently willing to do all it takes to not let his foray into English football end with a whimper, it remains to be seen if a summer move away from Arsenal indeed takes place. But with Perez currently being in his prime, it would be understandable if he indeed looks to move on.
