Liverpool are reportedly monitoring exciting Olympique Lyonnais star Gnaly Maxwel Cornet as Jurgen Klopp eyes summer addition at Anfield.

Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that Liverpool are interested in Olympique Lyonnais star Gnaly Maxwel Cornet. The exciting youngster has been a regular face in the starting eleven for Lyon and looks like his displays have caught the eye of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who is tracking the player.

As per the report, Liverpool have sent scouts to monitor the 20-year-old’s performances and could target the player in the summer. Cornet joined Olympique Lyonnais in January, 2015 for a measly fee from FC Metz and has now become a regular for the Ligue 1 side this season.

In the present campaign, Cornet has played a total of 33 game for Lyon in all competitions, with a return of 6 goals and 3 assists. Numbers aside, it is the player’s ability to play all across the front-three that is seen as a huge bonus and something that could interest Jurgen Klopp.

The player, though, is predominantly a left-winger, a position where Liverpool could be in need of reinforcements come summer, especially if Coutinho ends up leaving. Coutinho has been linked with the likes of PSG and Barcelona, with the latter deemed favourites to snap the Brazilian up in the summer.

The Reds have been linked with Hakim Ziyech of late as a potential Coutinho replacement and it seems they are continuing to scour for more potential summer targets.

Gnaly Maxwel Cornet is a part of a very young and talented Olympique Lyonnais filled with exciting talents across all positions. The 20-year-old signed a new long-term deal with Lyon in the summer of 2016, one that sees his contract extended to 2021.

The long duration of his contract means that Olympique Lyonnais will have the upper hand in negotiations in case Liverpool or other clubs do come knocking for the player and if the Ligue 1 outfit do decide to listen to offers for the 20-year-old.

Jurgen Klopp has iterated that Liverpool, according to him, is the perfect place for young talents to be nurtured and developed into the superstars they are touted to become. Cornet, though, will be currently focused on aiding his side’s bid to secure a finish that ensures European football for the next campaign.
