Juventus have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea in the summer, as per reports.

The Sun have reported that Juventus have joined the chase for David De Gea with the Bianconeri eyeing the Manchester United goalkeeper as the long-term replacement for club captain Gianluigi Buffon. Real Madrid are also showing interest in the Spain number one but could face competition in the Italian champions.

David De Gea seems to be slowly becoming a popular man in the transfer market, and for all the right reasons. After all, you are bound to be highly sought after if you have won the Player of the Year for three years at a top club like Manchester United and are considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

To say that he has been a special player for Manchester United would be a big understatement as De Gea has easily been one of the most pivotal figures at Old Trafford for the better part of the last half a decade.

What defines De Gea’s importance for Manchester United is that he has saved his best for the most clutch moments, coming up with truly world class saves when his side needs him the most, and at crucial junctures in matches against Liverpool and West Ham United, among others prove that.

With De Gea being one of the most consistent footballers in the world, there are several clubs that would like to sign him to add a commanding presence between the sticks. And Real Madrid have been one of those clubs that have been open, long-time admirers of De Gea.

Los Blancos tried to sign the 26-year-old in 2015, and it looked like De Gea was heading back to the Spanish capital before failed paperwork ensured that Manchester United miraculously managed to keep hold of their number one.

Recent reports, though, have stated that Real Madrid are back in the market for De Gea, having deemed goalkeeping reinforcements to be their top priority for the summer. And the Spanish giants are preparing a bid of €65 million, which they believe will trigger the release clause in De Gea’s contract.

But, Real Madrid could face competition in their pursuit of De Gea, with Juventus also eyeing the Spaniard according to the report by The Sun. The Bianconeri are preparing for the day when club captain Gianluigi Buffon calls it a day, and are thus scouting the market for a long-term successor.

His namesake Gianluigi Donnarumma remains on top of their wishlist and it is believed that Mino Raiola will do everything in his powers to take the teenage sensation to Turin, having already stalled contract talks with AC Milan.

David De Gea has remained tight lipped over a possible move away from Manchester United while maintaining that he is happy at Old Trafford. And with big clubs circling around him, Jose Mourinho could have a tough fight on his hands to retain De Gea in the summer.
