Former SL Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes, who recently signed for PSG despite interest from Manchester United, has revealed his reasons for snubbing the Red Devils.

Goncalo Guedes has been hailed as the next Cristiano Ronaldo by many, based on the level of his performances in Portugal. Manchester United were believed to be front-runners to snap up the player from SL Benfica in the January transfer window, but the player rejected the Red Devils and joined Paris Saint-Germain instead.

PSG are surely elated at being able to secure the future of Guedes at Paris, trumping a club like Manchester United. The player recently appeared in an exclusive interview with RMC Sport to open up about the PSG transfer.

Guedes talked about the move, his own skill-set, his best position and his thoughts on being handed the number 10 jersey at the Parc des Princes. Among all the other topics, the 20-year-old was also asked about the interest from Manchester United and the reasons for snubbing the Red Devils.

The winger iterated that at his age, he felt it was better to come to Paris for the betterment of his career, while stating that he felt more at home at Paris than England.

Guedes said,“ Yes, My wish has always been Paris. I know that English and French football are different but I sincerely think that at my age, for a young man, it was better to come to Paris because it is a big club, even if Manchester would have helped me too. But here, I will feel more at home than in England.”

Guedes is not the first one to reject Manchester United in favour of Paris citing the homeliness factor. Lucas Moura did the same during the Sir Alex Ferguson era. But Moura has failed to light up Europe since, and PSG would hope the same doesn’t happen with Guedes.

The one point of difference between the two is that Guedes is already well-versed with European football, so is likely to have less of a problem settling in compared to Lucas Moura. The presence of Lucas Moura at Parc des Princes might even help Guedes avoid a similar storyline.

On the other hand, Manchester United will likely be keeping tabs on Guedes’ progress and are likely to hop in at any window of opportunity to bring the player over to Old Trafford in the future.
