Chelsea have reportedly shifted their attention to Paris Saint-Germain stopper Salvatore Sirigu after uncertainty over the availability of Craig Gordon.

The Sun are claiming that the uncertainty looming over the availability of Craig Gordon has pushed Chelsea to turn their attention to another keeper. Antonio Conte is now looking to bring Paris Saint-Germain stopper Salvatore Sirigu over to Stamford Bridge as they brace themselves for the departure of Asmir Begovic.

Craig Gordon seemed set for a move to Stamford Bridge but the Blues saw a £3 million bid for the Scottish international rejected. He has since had crunch talks with the Celtic chiefs, who see the player as an indispensable part of the squad at Celtic Park.

This seemed to have thrown a wrench in Chelsea’s plans to replace Begovic. With no second-choice keeper in the squad and a seemingly botched attempt for the 34-year-old Craig Gordon, Conte has shifted his attention to another Italian to solve the goalkeeping crisis.

Salvatore Sirigu was a key part of Paris Saint-Germain’s first-team setup, starring as the undisputed first-choice keeper in three title-winning campaigns. But the arrival of Kevin Trapp has since seen Sirigu fall down the pecking order, and the 30-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Sevilla.

Even at Sevilla, the player has struggled to feature much, with just three appearances in all competitions combined and no clean sheets to show for his efforts. The player has failed to feature since being sent off for an elbow on Athletic Bilbao striker Aritz Aduriz.

The goalie was seen as the heir apparent to Gianluigi Buffon in the Italian national setup before the emergence of AC Milan prodigy Gianluigi Donnarumma and could serve as the perfect understudy to Thibaut Courtois, considering the fact that he isn’t a starter at Sevilla or PSG.

Sirigu will reportedly cost around £3 million, the same amount that was rejected for Gordon. The 30-year-old also has more football left in him than the 34-year-old Scottish international. A chance to work with Antonio Conte could interest Sirigu. But the move also depends on PSG’s ability to cut short the Sevilla loan spell.

If PSG are unable to do this, then it would result in Begovic keeping put at Chelsea till the end of the season, something which the Bosnian doesn’t seem too keen on.
