Christian Pulisic has agreed a contract extension at Borussia Dortmund, putting to rest the rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool.

The United States international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League and a reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. However Borussia Dortmund have now confirmed that Christian Pulisic has agreed a new deal to extend his stay at the Signal Iduna Park.

Pulisic has signed a new contract at Dortmund that runs till 2020, re-affirming his desire to stay with Die Schwarzgelben. The attacker was visibly upbeat upon the announcement of the extension, praising the fans and atmosphere surrounding the club as he spoke to the club’s official website.

Pulisic said,“I still have a lot to learn. I feel Dortmund offers the best conditions to do that. I have the chance to play in front of over 80,000 fans. We have the best supporters in the world – it does not get any better than that!”

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc also aired his thoughts on tying Pulisic to a new deal.

“We are very happy to have secured the long-term commitment of another extraordinarily talented player. Christian already enjoys a high standing within the team and can become a cornerstone of our sporting future.”

There is no doubt as to the talent and potential of Christian Pulisic. This season, the United States international has established himself firmly in Thomas Tuchel’s first-team plans at the Westfalenstadion.

Pulisic has featured in all of Dortmund’s Champions League games so far this season, while also appearing in 13 Bundesliga matches for the club, with a combined return of two goals and six assists, more than decent for the 18-year-old.

Jurgen Klopp was the one who saw the arrival of Pulisic at Dortmund during the German’s time at Westfalenstadion and he has been keen to bring the player over to Anfield. Despite Liverpool’s efforts and interest, including an £11 million bid which Dortmund rejected, Die Borussen have been firm in their desire to keep hold of Pulisic.

Dortmund have a sumptuous core of budding superstars within their ranks. Emre Mor, Julian Weigl, Ousmane Dembele, Felix Passlack, Mikel Merino, Christian Pulisic and the latest addition, Alexander Isak, are all 21 or less and could go on to become prominent names in the world of football.

If Dortmund do manage to hold on to these promising youngsters, there’s no telling how high they could soar in the near future.
