Liverpool are likely to double the wages of Adam Lallana to convince the midfielder to turn down an offer made by Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a Daily Express exclusive by Neil Fissler, Premier League giants Liverpool are likely to offer midfielder Adam Lallana a double-your-money contract to fend off interest from fellow English side Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old moved to Anfield in the summer of 2014, when then Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino sold the midfielder for a staggering £25 million. Lallana’s teammates at St Mary’s – Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert – also followed the midfielder to Liverpool that year.

While Lallana slotted straight into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans at Anfield, he struggled to replicate the performances that fetched his former side an impressive sum of £25 million. His finishing was off the mark and he looked like a mere shadow of his prolific self.

Rodgers was relived from his duties a few games into the following season and was replaced by former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp. The German’s arrival at Anfield sparked Lallana into life and the midfielder has become a key figure for the Reds.

Playing in a central midfield role, the 28-year-old has absolutely reveled under the tutelage of Klopp this season and has been pivotal to Liverpool’s second-place position on the Premier League.

His performances certainly haven’t gone unnoticed as former boss Pochettino is eyeing a reunion with the dynamic English midfielder. Currently managing Tottenham Hotspur, the Argentinian has done a phenomenal job with the North London outfit and nearly guided them to league success last season.

Centrally, Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama have performed a decent understanding while Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen have added guile to the Spurs attack in the final third. However, due to the inconsistency of Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela out wide, Eriksen has often had to deputise as a winger.

In signing Lallana, Pochettino will get a proven option down the right flank and also a player who can be a threat from a central position. His versatility will be beneficial to most Premier League sides and it is no surprise that Spurs are interested in signing him.

However with Klopp willing to double the player’s wages and with Lallana content at Anfield, Pochettino is fighting a losing battle to lure the player to White Hart Lane in January and should instead consider looking at other options.
