Liverpool are reportedly targeting in-form RB Leipzig star Emil Forsberg as an alternative to Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic.

Daily Mirror are reporting that Liverpool are interested in RB Leipzig superstar Emil Forsberg. The Reds have been in hot pursuit of Borussia Dortmund sensation Christian Pulisic, but amidst uncertainty over his availability, Klopp is now looking to move for Forsberg instead.

Forsberg is a 25-year-old Swedish winger who plays predominantly on the left wing, but is equally adept on the right side as well. The Swede arrived to RB Leipzig for around £3 million from Malmo FF in January, 2015, after being an integral part of the Swedish side’s title winning campaigns for two straight seasons.

Even as RB Leipzig earned promotion to the German top flight, making waves in the footballing world by toppling Bundesliga favourites Bayern Munich from atop the league table for a while, Emil Forsberg has been the prime architect in their run.

The Red Bull owned franchise find themselves second on the table at the moment, mainly because of a 3-0 loss to current leaders Bayern Munich, a match that saw Emil Forsberg receive marching orders for a horrendous tackle on Philipp Lahm.

Forsberg’s numbers show he’s a dangerous player. 5 goals and 9 assists in 15 Bundesliga outings has seen the Swede’s stock rise exponentially. Liverpool are reportedly eyeing an addition to their attack in January with Sadio Mane leaving for African Cup of Nations (AFCoN).

The Reds have been courting the rising Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic for a while, but are resigned to lose in the transfer battle, with Dortmund in no mood to even negotiate for a transfer for the United States international away from the Signal Iduna Park.

They have now apparently shifted their focus to Emil Forsberg. The player is highly rated within the RB Leipzig setup though, and given their surprise contention for European places and even a title challenge, the club is unlikely to listen to the possibility of selling the player in January.

However Ralf Rangnick, Sporting Director at RB Leipzig, has often said that they are always open to offers that they evaluate as value for money for the players, which may very well be the case in this potential transfer. The 25-year-old is rated at around £20 million by Leipzig, a fee Liverpool are unlikely to have a problem in spending to land the in-form Swede.

Forsberg’s current deal is set to expire in 2021, and given the time left on his contract, the valuation seems fair. Liverpool might just be able to get their hands on the Swedish sensation this January, and his form suggests that he won’t be anything other than a success at Anfield, should he actually make the switch to play under Jurgen Klopp.
