Liverpool were being heavily linked with a move for star English goalkeeper Joe Hart, who is currently on loan from Manchester City at Italian club Torino

The goalkeeping situation at Anfield seems to be the only area where the club haven’t improved under manager Jurgen Klopp. The Reds were reportedly on the hunt for a world class goalkeeper, and it was recently reported that they had set their sights on England number one Joe Hart.

The 29-year-old was banished to Italy by new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, with the Catalan boss preferring a keeper with better distribution skills. Hart has since been a regular for Torino in the Serie A while on loan, but is believed to be keen on a Premier League return.

However, SkySports are now reporting that their sources at Anfield have informed them that the club will not be making a move for Hart at any point this year.

While Hart would have been ineligible to play for Liverpool if he moved in the winter, a summer transfer was looking like a huge possibility for both club and player. If the recent revelations are to be believed then it’s back to square one for both parties.

Things were looking up for Liverpool this season, with the arrival of Loris Karius from Mainz. The German displaced Simon Mignolet from the number one spot, and put in some solid performances to ease the Reds woes at the back.

It all came unraveled for Karius after he made a big mistake in a game against Bournemouth in early December. The German was the subject of much criticism, and could only follow up with another poor performance against West Ham United.

Klopp took note of the situation and decided to drop Karius from the starting XI, leaving the door open for Mignolet to saunter in and take over the number one spot.

This leaves Liverpool in a very familiar situation with Mignolet at number one, but it looks like Klopp is convinced by his present options and doesn’t want to enter the market for another goalkeeper.

Joe Hart would’ve been a good acquisition, but the Englishman will now have to look at other options in the summer.
