Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for SL Benfica starlet Andre Ferreira as a long-term solution to their goalkeeping woes.

Portuguese publication A Bola claim that Liverpool are interested in SL Benfica starlet Andre Ferreira. The goalkeeper has been on the radar of the Premier League outfit for a long time and it seems like the Reds are finally looking to move to secure a transfer for the exciting 20-year-old.

André Filipe Magalhães Ribeiro Ferreira, or simply Andre Ferreira, is a 20-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper who has come up through the ranks at SL Benfica. The player is yet to break into the first-team setup and make his senior debut for the club and has represented Portugal upto the Under-18 level.

Ferreira, though, is a regular face for Benfica B, the club’s reserve side and is their first-choice keeper. The 20-year-old has appeared in 19 outings in the Ledman Liga Pro for the reserve side, conceding 20 goals, just over 1 goal a game, while keeping 5 shutouts in the process.

Liverpool are thought to be long-term admirers of the player and reports coming out of Portugal are now claiming that the Reds are ready to convert their interest into a real offer on the table. Liverpool see the 20-year-old as a long-term project to be the future first-choice at Anfield and could move for him soon.

The player is tied down with a long-term contract by SL Benfica, with his current deal expiring in 2021. Despite the length of his contract at SL Benfica, the player is unlikely to command an exorbitant price tag.

Liverpool have failed to see a player truly lock down the spot between the sticks after the departure of long-term first-choice custodian Pepe Reina. Even now, the newly signed Loris Karius has seen himself lose his starting place to Simon Mignolet, who himself has been shaky at best.

In all fairness, Liverpool should hush in with a quick offer and secure a transfer for the player before his senior debut for SL Benfica, which will likely inflate his price a bit. Alternatively, the 20-year-old might just start attracting interest from other clubs, which would also cause his asking price to rise.
