Manchester United are reportedly planning to trump Arsenal in the race to sign West Ham United’s French superstar Dimitri Payet.

Daily Star are claiming that Manchester United are plotting a raid for West Ham United superstar Dimitri Payet. The French winger has been linked with a move to Arsenal  in the recent past. But the reports states that United manager Jose Mourinho is planning to trump Arsenal in the race to sign the 29-year-old.

Payet has been a revelation since moving to the Premier League. His enigmatic presence has lifted the Hammers to a whole new level. While West Ham United achieved an admirable top-half finish last season, the results have gone against them so far this season.

However the Hammers seem to have found some form with back-to-back wins. Payet failed to score or create a goal in either of the two wins, but his impressive displays earned him a Man of The Match award in each of the two wins (as per whoscored).

Payet has recorded decent numbers this season with 2 goals and 5 assists to his name in the Premier League. At 29, the Frenchman could well be eyeing a move to a club who can offer Champions League football, the highest echelon of European club football.

Manchester United cannot provide Champions League football at the moment, but European football in the form of Europa League is still available to the 29-year-old, should he be tempted by a winter move.

Manchester United’s wage structure and financial prowess is unmatched by Arsenal and the Red Devils are reportedly prepared to offer Payet a weekly wage of around £220,000, a pay-package which is unlikely to be matched or bettered by the Gunners.

Mourinho is planning a squad overhaul over the two upcoming transfer windows and the addition of a superstar like Dimitri Payet would further add to the quality attacking options the Portuguese possesses.

Payet already admitted earlier this week that, while he is focused on helping the Hammers improve on their present position in the league table, the Frenchman is also ambitious and could be on the move soon.

Payet would not only want a handsome salary but the chance to win silverware as well. At Manchester United he would be able to get the best of both worlds – a handsome pay package combined with the ability to compete for top honours in Europe.
