Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly leading Arsenal in the race to sign Wolfsburg ace Julian Draxler, who looks set to leave the club.

As per reports from French publication Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain are leading Arsenal and Juventus in the pursuit of Wolfsburg ace Julian Draxler. The player, who has been at loggerheads with his current employers and the club fans, has been linked with an exit from the club with Juventus, Arsenal and PSG the primary clubs reported to be interested in securing the services of the German international.

Julian Draxler transferred to Wolfsburg from fellow Bundesliga club Schalke 04 in a big money move and had a decent debut season at his new club. The player has been linked with an exit from the club with top European clubs interested in the 23-year-old after a stellar showing at the European Championships for Germany.

A whole saga kicked off as Draxler said that he had an agreement with Wolfsburg to let him leave after the Euros, which the club denied and announced that the player was not going anywhere. His performances this season have been largely disappointing with the player failing to either score or create a single goal for the club.

The 23-year-old was booed by his own fans, which infuriated the player further, who recently reaffirmed his desire to leave. And Wolfsburg manager Valerien Ismael left him out of the squad to face Bayern Munich with the player almost resigned to leave the club in the January transfer window.

The likes of Arsenal, PSG and Juventus are all reportedly monitoring the availability of the player and are potential suitors for the player in January. As per the Le Parisien report, PSG are now leading the race to sign the player, to add to the attacking and creative options for their new manager Unai Emery, who has come under fire after a mediocre start to his managerial career at Parc des Princes.

The fee that has been associated with a potential transfer in January, though, is €30m – a huge drop to the player’s earlier valuation of €70m by the club. The report says that Emery’s priority is to sign a striker but Angel Di Maria’s failure to impress the boss means that the club may be in the market for a wide forward.

And Draxler, at 23, fits the bill of a young wide forward that has the burst of pace combined with the trickery and willingness to shine at a club like Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal and Juventus, though, are unlikely to give up and would most probably challenge PSG in January for the player. Draxler was close to a move to PSG in the summer and could be set to finally achieve a transfer to the French giants, something that looks even more likely now, after the recent series of events.
