Arsenal have been desperately trying to tie down their German superstar Mesut Ozil to a new contract, but the midfielder has now issued a strange request to the Gunners involving his compatriot Julian Draxler

The contract stand-off between Arsenal and Ozil has been grabbing headlines for the past few months now. The German play-maker is contracted to the club till the summer of 2018, but the Gunners want him to sign a new contract that would keep him at the Emirates even longer.

Recent reports claimed that Ozil and fellow contract rebel Alexis Sanchez were demanding pay parity with Manchester United star Paul Pogba. However, it now looks like the German play maker wants more than just money.

Wolfsburg outcast Julian Draxler may become an important factor in Ozil’s contract negotiations. According to French media outlet RMC Sport (as reported by the Independent), Ozil has asked Arsenal to sign Draxler as it would go a long way in convincing him to commit his long term future to the club.

Ozil played a major role in the transfer of compatriot Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia this past summer, and he now wants one more of his international teammates to join the duo at the Emirates.

Attacking midfielder Julian Draxler is considered to be a top young talent, having come through the famed Schalke academy in Germany. He has also been a long-time target of Arsenal, with reports claiming that they had even made a £43 million bid for the 23-year-old this past summer.

Wolfsburg rejected all interested parties last time around, but the situation looks to have changed drastically. Draxler has recently been frozen out of Die Wolves squad, and the Bundesliga club want to offload the player as soon as possible.

However, Arsenal will have to fend off interest from French giants PSG, who are also very keen on signing Draxler. This could end up leading to a bidding war which would shove the Gunners in a corner, given that the future of one of their top stars could depend on this transfer.
