Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly turned his attention towards young German centre-back Jonathan Tah, with a view to signing the Bayer Leverkusen defender in January.

Liverpool have hit the ground running this season and sit at the top of the Premier League table after 11 games. The Reds have 26 points thus far, and impressive away wins over rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have established their title credentials this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been prolific in front of goal, scoring 30 goals from their first 11 matches. The likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana have combined to form a fluid front four for the league leaders and have looked nothing short of untouchable at times.

It is the problems at the back, though, which could potentially derail Liverpool’s title charge this season. The Reds have shipped in 14 goals, which puts them as the third worst defence in the Premier League.

Having only managed to keep a single clean sheet in 11 attempts so far, the main problem area for Jurgen Klopp to address could not be more evident. It looks like the German manager is ready to do just that, with the Mirror reporting that Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah is on Klopp’s radar.

While Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have struck up a promising partnership at the heart of the Liverpool defence, Klopp recognizes that there is still room for improvement. Tah, who has been widely regarded as one of the most highly rated young talents in Europe, offers something different to the incumbent central defensive pairing.

The Germany international joined Bayer Leverkusen from Hamburg in 2015 in a £7 million deal and his impressive displays have seen him earn two caps for the national side already. With an imposing presence coupled and outstanding ball playing abilities, Tah has all the ingredients to become a commanding, world class defender.

Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori are out of favour at Anfield and seemingly closer to the exit door, and Joe Gomez has only just returned from an ACL injury. The addition of Tah, therefore, will certainly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s options at the back as he looks to iron out the defensive issues that have plagued the Reds this season.
