The young forward has made the Premier League giants sit-up and take notice with his impressive displays for Porto.

21 year old Andre Silva is having a break-through season with Porto, and his dazzling performances aren’t going unnoticed, certainly not by the Premier League elites. The Portuguese striker is enjoying a phenomenal year at club and country level, having scored 7 goals in 10 league matches for Porto with a return of 4 goals from 4 appearances on international duty.

Manchester United and Chelsea have been previously linked with the in-form forward with the duo scouting the young striker extensively. Italian publication Tuttosport (h/t Italian Football Daily) have claimed Juventus and Barcelona are keenly observing Silva’s performances.

And now, Portuguese sports newspaper, A Bola have revealed that Manchester City have joined the race for the much-coveted forward. The newspaper states that Pep Guardiola is monitoring Andre Silva’s progress very closely, with a view of signing him eventually.

The story is corroborated by The Sun, who suggest Manchester City scouts along with representatives of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus were at Estadio do Dragao for the O Clássico between Porto and Benfica to witness the highly-rated striker in action over the previous weekend.

The English newspaper also claim Andre Silva was available for £22 million in the summer, a snip of an amount for his talents, but no club decided to take the plunge due to his inconsistent performances in the previous year. Porto went on to tie down their most prized asset with an extension for 5 years at the start of the season, setting his release clause at €60 million.

The steep release-clause is sure to make the likes of Juventus think twice before making a move for the player but the amount shouldn’t really pose a problem for the cash-rich Premier League clubs. It definitely promises to be a tug-of-war between the European super-clubs for Andre Silva in the upcoming transfer windows.
