Veteran midfielder Michael Carrick starred for Manchester United once again as they claimed a much needed victory over Swansea City on Sunday.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways once again after a humiliating mid-week loss to Fenerbahce. A superb long distance strike from Paul Pogba opened the scoring, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s brace ended the game as a competition.

However, one of the key players pulling the strings in from midfield was veteran midfielder Michael Carrick. The 35-year-old remains one of the best in the Manchester United squad and the fans believe that he should be starting as many games as possible for them.

Manager Jose Mourinho was questioned about the Englishman after the 3-1 win over Swansea on Sunday, and the Portuguese claimed that it wasn’t possible to play Carrick in every game given his advancing years.

“I would love to play him every game but that is not possible,” said Mourinho, according to Metro. “Why? For the same reason that I cannot go to the gym every day any more. He started today and he played very, very well.”.

There’s a reason why Manchester United fans want Michael Carrick in the starting lineup as often as possible. The Englishman has an unbelievable record this season as the Red Devils have won all six games that the 35-year-old has played in.

Carrick has played four full games for United so far: against Northampton and Manchester City in the League Cup, the first Europa League group stage game against Fenerbahce and the recent victory over Swansea City. He has also made two substitute appearances, both against Leicester City. In contrast, Man United have won only five in 12 games that haven’t featured Carrick.

The former Tottenham midfielder has already won everything there is to win in a career at United that now spans more than a decade. However, the veteran still has plenty more to offer the club and could remain a contributing member of the squad for some time yet.
