Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a sensational move to bring Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez back to the Premier League

Spanish publication Don Balon have sensationally claimed that Manchester United and Manchester City are planning a swoop for Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez. The Manchester duo are preparing an offer to facilitate the Uruguayan’s return to the Premier League.

Luis Suarez grew into a phenomenon during his time at Liverpool and the forward seems to have found an extra gear after moving to Barcelona. While he managed just 16 goals and 14 assists in La Liga in his debut season at Nou Camp, Suarez turned it up a notch to have what could be termed as a magical season, a campaign that heralded him to newer and unwavering heights.

The Uruguayan recorded a return of 40 goals and 14 assists in the league alone and the 29-year-old seems to have started the season on a similar note, with 7 goals and 3 assists from 9 La Liga matches.

Suarez’s current Barcelona deal runs till 2019 and thus far, there has not been news of talks or negotiations as regards a new contract for the Uruguayan. Neymar and Messi are close to agreeing to their contract extensions, which has prompted the Manchester clubs to speculate that the Catalan club may be willing to cash in on the 29-year-old.

While Messi has become an unsellable part of the brand that is Barcelona, Neymar is widely seen as the ultimate successor to his Latin American counterpart. Suarez, who is already 29, could be heading into the last few years of his career and Barcelona might just start building for the future, as is reflected from the recent signings.

Manchester United signed Zlatan over the summer and despite a strong start, the Swede has started to look out of form and consistency in the Premier League might just be too tough a task for the 35-year-old now. Luis Suarez already has experience of Premier League and could present United with a permanent option, at least for the next 3-4 years.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are prepared to offload Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez could serve as the Argentine’s replacement and the 29-year-old would seemingly serve as a perfect fit to Guardiola’s tactics after having played in a similar system at Barcelona.

Manchester City, though, appear to be in the lead with club executive Ferran Soriano, who previously worked at Barcelona, having already contacted his former club to make them aware of City’s interest in Suarez.

However, Soriano has assured Barcelona that City shall not pursue or launch an attack for Suarez and shall only move for the player if and when the Catalan club does decide to offload the player.

Manchester City’s connections to Barcelona and their negotiations from the Claudio Bravo deal could prove to be the decisive factor in this case.

Even though Suarez’s current release clause stands at €200m, it is thought that the clubs would have to shelve out in the region of €150m in order to land the superstar as per the Don Balon report.

For now though, Luis Suarez has made it clear that he wishes to stay at Nou Camp and it looks highly unlikely that the Uruguayan would choose to leave the club before the expiration of his current deal.
