Borussia Dortmund have reportedly agreed to sell wantaway attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City are among the front-runners for the Gabon international’s signature.

According to the Daily Mirror, Dortmund are willing to let go of their prized asset Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international has impressed since joining the Yellow and Blacks in 2013, but is now prepared to make the step up in his career.

Since moving to the Westfalenstadion, Aubameyang has racked up an impressive 87 goals in 152 games. His work-rate has been second to none and he has developed into a vital cog in the Dortmund setup.

Chelsea and Manchester City would be relishing the opportunity to sign the versatile forward. At 27, he is arguably still to peak, and could be at the top of his game for the next five years to come. This season, he has scored five goals in as many games for Dortmund and has been pivotal in guiding them to third spot on the table — a mere four points off leaders and defending champions Bayern Munich.

Antonio Conte has struggled to implement his philosophy at the club and has failed to bring the most out of the attacking players at his disposal, with Diego Costa being the notable exception.

While Eden Hazard began the season convincingly, his performances of late have been disappointing. Willian too, has been suffering from lapses in form while Pedro has failed to have any real impact either. As such, signing a player like Aubameyang would undoubtedly help Conte’s side.

The interest from Manchester City seems a tad surprising. Pep Guardiola signed two quality wingers in Nolito and Leroy Sane this summer, and both have enjoyed relatively decent starts to the season.

Although Aubameyang likes to play in a slightly deeper role behind the striker, he has been used in a more advanced position this season. He has looked fine playing with his back to the goal, and Guardiola may see the Gabonese as an ideal strike partner for Sergio Aguero.
