Arsenal have long been pursuing Julian Draxler, but they won’t be getting him in January. The 23-year-old has stated that he is committed to Wolfsburg, at least till next summer.

Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger have reportedly long been interested in the highly rated German midfielder. The Gunners had even made a bid for the Wolfsburg midfielder in the summer, but the Bundesliga club was unwilling to sell.

Draxler confirmed his desire to move away from Die Wolves back in August. Arsenal and other interested clubs would have hoped that they could have landed him in the winter transfer window. However, the German international has now stated that he is committed to Wolfsburg for the immediate future.

“We had disagreements,” said Draxler at a fan-event on Sunday, according to the Mirror.

“But from September 1, it was clear that we could only go in one direction. Now it no longer matters.

“There will probably be speculation again in January, but I won’t be the one to start them. My head is fully focused. I play towards the summer, trying to help the club.”

Draxler could be available next summer though, but the question now is whether Arsenal will still be interested in him. This is likely to be Arsene Wenger’s last season at the Emirates, and with the Frenchman gone, it remains to be seen if the club sustain their interest in the German midfielder.

The Gunners already have a well stocked mid-field. New signing Granit Xhaka is already firing away, while Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are consistently putting in good performances so far this season.

Apart from that trio of superstars, Arsenal also have Aaron Ramsey, the up and coming young starlet Alex Iwobi, the English core of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the currently on-loan golden boy Jack Wilshere.

The North London club don’t seem in dire need of someone with Draxler’s skill-set. However, should the 23-year-old decide to move next summer, then another of his long term suitors, PSG, will be more than ready to splash the cash for German international.
