The No. 10 shirt has been worn by many greats in the history of the football. Now, Ozil, who currently dons the number 10 jersey for Germany, also wants to do the same at his club Arsenal.

Being the exquisite and deft playmaker that he is, Ozil no doubt deserves the jersey. Many a times he has come up with the goods for his club and won games for them. With his sleek passes and neat touches, Ozil has all the attributes of a complete midfielder.

Such a player is bound to don a jersey with a number that goes down in footballing tradition as one of the most iconic.

However, there is just one slight problem with Ozil’s demand.

The Arsenal number 10 is currently Jack Wilshere and he has not exactly left Arsenal for good. The Englishman was loaned out to Bornemouth, and is set to return at the end of the season.

So Ozil, who is surely more fitting of the jersey, might want to check on Wilshere to see if he is alright with the whole issue.

The Germany international currently wears 11 at the Emirates Stadium, but hopes that Wilshere’s departure could mean his preferred number is up for grabs soon.

Being arguably the team’s main creator, Ozil sees the shirt as a mark of his importance in the team and has hinted to the club’s staff that he’d like to wear it in future.

Ozil was quoted telling Sport1, “Of course I have previously given those in charge a signal. The number is right for me and my position as a playmaker.”

Ozil himself wore the number 10 shirt back during his Real Madrid days but was given the number 11 at Arsenal. However, he hopes that Wilshere’s temporary departure and the fact that he himself is such an integral part of the Arsenal team will convince the management to give the iconic jersey to him.

Previously, Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, who played in a style similar to that of Ozil, also wore the number 10 shirt throughout his long stay in north London.

It remains to be seen though as to what decision the management comes to.
