Just days after the summer transfer window closed, and with around 120 days left for the one in winter to open, the rumours are once again doing the rounds. This time it links French striker Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United.

Apparently, Mourinho is thinking ahead and hopes that the Frenchman can be the long-term replacement for his current captain Wayne Rooney.

Rooney, however, has set his sights on extending his career at United by calling time on his international career after World Cup 2018. Of late, he has been far from his best.

For now, Griezmann looks comfortably settled in Spain, but United’s relentless attitude in going all out for the player they want might make this an interesting transfer saga come 2017.

If Griezmann is indeed signed by Manchester United, it would be a formidable side that they would be building. The star would add to a shopping spree that has included Zlatan Ibrahimovic and world record signing Paul Pogba, with both players delivering in the early stages of their time at the club.

However, the transfer window is still far away and Mourinho needs a lot of planning to do before he can actually sign Griezmann, for it would take a lot of doing to pry him out of the grasps of Atletico Madrid.

Last month, Griezmann praised Manchester United, saying it was the perfect club for his French team mate Pogba. He said,” Manchester [United] is the perfect club for him, with Mourinho they are making something new.”

Former Real Sociedad player Griezmann himself has not been asked an opinion about these rumours, but given the fact that Manchester United are such a reputed club, who will also be willing to spend big on one of the world’s best footballers now, might just entice Griezmann.

For the moment though, there is nothing concrete and with the winter transfer window not opening before January, Griezmann and co would want to concentrate on the matches that they have at hand till then.
