Chelsea have made a last minute €30 million offer for Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko amidst strong interest from rivals Tottenham Hotpsur.

The 27-year-old has left the French National Team training camp in order to complete a transfer on deadline day, as announced by the FFF’s twitter handle. Sissoko was reportedly on the brink of making a £30 million switch to White Hart Lane and negotiations were on going, as Spurs hoped to negotiate the transfer for a lesser fee.

According to Léquipe, Chelsea have stepped in the race at the last minute to challenge their cross-town rivals for Sissoko’s signature and are willing to make a bid worth €30 million to lure him to Stamford Bridge and negotiations are reportedly ongoing with his representatives.

Tottenham have the advantage of being able to offer Champions League football to the Frenchman, something that Chelsea won’t be able to offer. Tottenham are in dire need of midfield reinforcements are an injury to Moussa Dembele and Sissoko would slot right into the heart of midfield for Spurs and act as a box-to-box midfielder.

His versatility would allow him to switch to the wings if and when required by Pochettino, thereby making his skill set all the more useful.

Chelsea, on the other hand, need another midfielder beside Matic and Fabregas to team up alongside N’Golo Kante and Sissoko would be an ideal fit.

Matic isn’t the player he once was whereas Fabregas has seemingly fallen out of favour with Antonio Conte and isn’t in the Italian’s plans for the future, despite taking to social media and assuring fans that all is well between him and Conte and he intends to stay and fight for his place in the team.
