Milan are back in for Brazil’s U-23 defender Rodrigo Caio after their defensive horror show at San Paolo last night. They are desperately trying to find an agreement with the player’s representatives, but his club does not want to let go of him before December.

Milan were linked with Sao Paulo’s centre-back Rodrigo Caio previously. However, it was reported that Milan would agree a deal with the club to sign the player in January rather than now. The Brazilian season is already underway and the Soberano are adamant they want to hold on to him at least until the season is over.

The Situation

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Milan have intensified contact with the player’s entourage in the last few hours. He is a transfer priority for Milan, either now or in January. After last night’s series of defensive oversights that let rivals Napoli score four goals past a leaky Milan defense, the board has finally stirred up and want to bring in quality reinforcements.

The failure to sign Matteo Mussacchio was followed by the subsequent signing of Gustavo Gomez this year.

Paraguay training

Although the Paraguayan centre half had a decent outing, he will not be adequate in the season ahead, especially with the flurry of injuries a long season entails. Caio would be good for a young Milan side who played seven U-24 players yesterday against the full might of Sarri’s Napoli side.

The European Passport

Caio recently obtained an Italian passport which would make him eligible to play for Milan despite the fact that Milan have already exhausted their quota of Non EU players with Gomez and Jose Sosa.

The Brazilian had a highly successful Olympic campaign and returned home with a gold medal. There are quire a few clubs lining up for his signature. Lazio and Sevilla were on the lookout for the Sao Paulo man but it remains to be seen what the player wants. Caio’s teammate Gabigol recently moved to Milan’s city rivals Inter despite his club’s insistence on him staying on till January.
