Liverpool striker Divock Origi has emerged as a shock target for Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.

After negotiations for Chelsea striker Diego Costa seem to have hit a dead end, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have reportedly turned their attention to Liverpool forward Divock Origi. In other Liverpool related news, reserve goalkeeper Adam Bogdan has parted ways with the Reds in a quest to seek first-team football at Championship side Wigan.

According to the Mirror (h/t 90 Min), Atletico boss Diego Simeone is keeping tabs on Liverpool striker Divock Origi to bolster his attack at the Vicente Calderon. It was reported earlier that Simeone was interested in Chelsea attacker Diego Costa, but with the Blues unwilling to sell, Origi has now emerged as a top transfer target.

Origi suffered an injury-hit season at Anfield, only managing to make 7 Premier League starts. However, the Belgian still managed to put on a show as he chipped in with five goals and provided a assist. Given the array of strikers Liverpool possess, it wouldn’t be the worst decision for Origi to consider moving to Spain.

If the 21-year old does sign for Atletico, he would plausibly partner Antoine Griezmann in the attack. Fernando Torres who has already turned 32, would play more of a subdued role in Los Merengues squad. According to Simeone, Origi would fit into his brand of football and could help Atletico in winning the La Liga.

After making just 6 appearances for the Reds, goalkeeper Adam Bogdan completed a loan move to Championship outfit Wigan (via BBC). The stopper joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015/16 on a free transfer from Bolton, but failed to usurp Simon Mignolet, and was eventually shown the door by Jurgen Klopp.

He would join a Wigan side that recently achieved promotion from League One, and would be pushing hard to make it back into the Premier League. Also, with an internationally experienced keeper like Bogdan among the ranks, Wigan manager Gary Caldwell would be pleased of his side’s chances this coming season.
