Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed to a £11 million fee for Marseille winger Georges-Kévin Nkoudou. West Ham youngster Reece Oxford is also linked with a shock move to White Hart Lane.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly looking to add firepower to the team that finished third in the 2015/16 Premier League season. After roping in striker Vincent Jannsen from AZ Alkmaar and Victor Wanyama from Southampton, the Dutch manager has now agreed a deal with French youngster Georges-Kévin Nkoudou. Another fledgling, Reece Oxford, is reported to be part of Spurs’ transfer list.
Nkodou set to complete his Spurs move within the next few days
According to the Guardian, a fee of £11 million has been agreed with Marseille for their star winger Georges-Kévin Nkoudou. It is also understood that the Frenchman is set to travel to London and complete his medical this week.
By further bringing in youngsters, Pochettino has made a signal of intent to prove that last season was not a fluke by his Spurs side. He addressed the issue of depth to the strike force as he brought in attacker Vincent Jannsen. Prior to a sealing a deal for the the striker, the Dutch boss turned to his former club Southampton for midfield destroyer Victor Wanyama.
Nkoudou is not expected to challenge for a spot in the starting lineup as soon as he joins the side, but could quickly learn to adapt to life in England. The 21-year-old had an impressive past season in the Ligue 1, as he tallied 5 goals and provided 3 assists despite making only 22 starts. He also completed 2.3 take-ons per game, and was tidy in possession – maintaining an accuracy of 82.1 per cent (via WhoScored).
West Ham youngster Reece Oxford emerges as a shock Spurs target
As reported by HITC, Spurs have joined Manchester rivals – City and United – in the race to lure 17-year-old defender Reece Oxford away from Slaven Bilic’s West Ham. It was also reported that scouts from all three clubs were in attendance to watch the Englishman while the Young Lions took on the Netherlands in an under-19 Euro game.
Oxford, who is a centre-back by trade, was deployed as defensive midfielder by Bilic, and executed his role to near perfection. In the Englishman’s first game of the season, he dominated Mesut Ozil in the middle of the park, and was vital as the Hammers stunned Arsenal by a 2-0 scoreline.
A move to White Hart Lane would certainly see the 17-year-old a step higher, and could also be given the chance to play in the Champions League. Also, with a fledgling squad at Tottenham, young Oxford may have all the tools he needs to flourish.
