Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil is reportedly looking for a pay-rise from the Gunners.

Mesut Ozil is reportedly unhappy with his current wage at Arsenal and is looking for a pay-rise from the Premier League club. Spanish publication Sport have reported that Ozil along with teammate Alexis Sanchez are feeling underpaid compared to the other Premier League stars. The report goes on to state that the depreciation of the pound against other currencies as a result of Brexit has not really helped the cause.

27-year old Ozil is on a £180,000 per-week salary at Arsenal but wants an improved deal and is set to hold contract talks with the hierarchy. The German international still has a couple of years left on his current deal but the report states that the Londoners want to tie down the superstar to a long-term contract.

One improved contract please!

Mesut Ozil became Arsenal’s most expensive transfer signing in the history of the club after joining from Real Madrid for £42.5m in the summer window of 2013. The German ace has since gone on to win two FA Cup trophies with the club.

Ozil dazzled the Premier League last season with 6 goals and 19 assists in 35 league appearances for Arsenal. The German came close to breaking the Premier League assists record held by Gunners legend Thierry Henry.

The 27-year old also played a part in his nation’s semi-final run in the recently concluded European Championships. Ozil scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist in the 6 matches as the 2014 FIFA World Cup winners lost 2-0 to the hosts and bowed out of the tournament.

Mesut Ozil has been a crucial cog in Wenger’s plans to end the Premier League title drought at the Emirates. The question of an improved contract seems reasonably justified after the recent depreciation of the pound. The Gunners want to keep hold of the German international and the playmaker seems to have no intention of leaving. The 27-year old will reportedly hold contract talks with Arsenal soon and his wish for a pay-rise is most likely to be granted.
