West Ham United are looking to bring in an array of players to their new home at the Olympic Stadium. Former striker Carlos Tevez has been heavily linked with a move to his boyhood club.

The Hammers are in the market for a top class striker, as they look to overhaul their squad ahead of next season. After seeing their massive offer for Olympique Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette rejected, they had reportedly made an attempt to sign Dutch striker and Tottenham target Vincent Janssen.

The latest forward being linked with West Ham is one of their most renowned former strikers. The club has approached 32-year old Carlos Tevez, who also played for Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus before moving to boyhood club Boca Juniors last year.

West Ham chairman David Sullivan has now stated that the club has made an attempt to sign Tevez again but has been dissuaded by the player’s massive wage demands.

“We tried to get Tevez but he wanted £250,000 a week. In his last year at Juventus he was great. But 250 grand a week?,” said Sullivan, according to the Mirror.

The Hammers chairman went on to slam Tevez for his insistence that he loves the club, where he spent his first season in the Premier League in 2006-07 before moving on to Manchester United.

“All this business of ‘I love West Ham.’ Well, it’s ‘I love West Ham if they give me 250 grand a week.’ So how much love is that for West Ham? I actually offered him 150 grand a week to come back plus bonuses,” he said.

The potential transfer of Tevez now depends on whether or not he is willing to lower his wage demands. Even at £150,000 a week, he would still become West Ham’s highest paid player. However, for now, that record belongs to Frenchman Dimitri Payet, who has caught the eye of a number of Europe’s top clubs with his performances for France in the European Championships.

While the likes of Payet, Michail Antonio, Manuel Lanzini and Mark Noble have been consistent midfield performers for West Ham, they are in dire need of a good central striker. Diafra Sakho has been anonymous for them this season, while Andy Carroll is too inconsistent to be counted upon to bag the goals for an ambitious team like West Ham.
