Liverpool are set for some big moves this summer and have emerged as the shock front-runners for the signature of one of Manchester United’s most highly rated young midfielders.

Memphis Depay has endured a horrible season at Manchester United after arriving from PSV Eindhoven for £25 million last summer. After ending the 2014-15 season as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 22 goals in 30 appearances for PSV, Depay found himself out of form and out of luck at Old Trafford. The Dutchman scored just two league goals for United and his poor performances saw him demoted to the bench for the latter part of the season.

Depay recently took to Instagram to reveal his new training routine, probably aimed at trying to muscle his way back into the first team.

The 22-year old winger has been linked with the likes of Premier League champions Leicester City and Stoke City but Liverpool have emerged as shock favourites. According to the Sun, bookies Ladbrokes have slashed the odds on Depay moving to Liverpool from 7/2 to 7/4, making the Reds favourites to land him.

The transfer would be historic if it happens. Since 1964, when Phil Chisnall moved from Manchester United to Liverpool, there have been no direct transfers between the two bitter North-West rivals.

The Reds were in the race to sign Depay last summer as well but the presence of Louis van Gaal swayed the deal in Manchester United’s favour. The exit of the Iron Tulip could well lead to the exit of Depay as well, with Klopp looking to reinvigorate the young player’s career.
