Jose Mourinho has reportedly set his sights on Wolfsburg’s dynamic wide-man Julian Draxler. The 22-year-old moved to Die Wölfe  at the start of the 14/15 season and is now linked with a move to the English giants.

With a massive squad revamp on the cards at Old Trafford, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is keen to rope in the talented German attacker Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg. As reported by Bild, the 22-year-old is on the radar of the new United boss, as he is still to make a decision about his future. Draxler would be a perfect fit well into Mourinho’s setup as the manager of Manchester United as the Portuguese laid emphasis on adding youth to his ranks during his initial interviews.

Draxler joined Wolfsburg for a club record fee of £25 million from FC Schalke 04 last season. A move for the German would make Mourinho pay a fee in excess of that figure to secure his services. He can play on either flank, but prefers to ply his trade on the left-wing where he can cut-in and whip the ball into the 18-yard-area. His incredible dribbling ability can put the top defenders to shame, making him a good fit in the Manchester United setup.

In 21 Bundesliga appearances this past term, Draxler netted 5 goals and assisted another 5, according to WhoScored. He was also impressive in the Champions League where he scored thrice in 9 games. His best performance in Europe’s elite club competition probably came in the first-leg against the eventual winners Real Madrid.  The Wolfsburg superstar tormented Los Blancos’ right-back Danilo, making it one of the most torrid outings for the Brazilian defender. Draxler’s performances against some of Europe’s best teams has showed how influential a player he can be.

Will Draxler’s arrival spell the end for Memphis’ United career?

There was tremendous hype among the Old Trafford faithful when Memphis Depay was announced as a Manchester United player at the beginning of last season. His performances at PSV Eindhoven showcased exactly what United needed, and he seemed to be a suitable fit at the club. But, to everyone’s dismay, the Dutch attacker failed to live up to his billing.

Due to his torrential injury worries, he could never narrow down a spot in Louis van Gaal’s lineup, and even when the manager opted to start the former PSV man, Memphis never managed to perform to his best abilities.

The Mirror stated that Memphis Depay is set to be part of a mass clear-out at Old Trafford, with new manager Jose Mourinho targeting immediate success at his new club. It was also reported by the same publication that Liverpool may be interested in signing the wantaway United winger.
